How We Started
Christ Church of Livingston County began in the fall of 2002 as a group of 5 men met to study Christian doctrine and church life. In April of 2003 the church formally constituted as a mission of All Saints Presbyterian Church, of Lancaster, PA, and a member of the Confederation of Reformed Evangelical Churches.
Our Distinctives
Just as there are healthy differences between individuals in the body of Christ, so too are there differences between churches. Our church has certain distinctives, which we think are helpful in building up the body of Christ in Howell, MI. Here is a representative sample:
- Covenant Renewal Worship - A worship pattern found in Scripture, which we believe honors God, seeks His blessings in Christ, and presents our entire lives as service to Him. God renews and streghthens us for the week as we come before Him in a way that pleases Him.
- Emphasis on Healthy Families - Actively building up whole families and graciously dealing with common family problems with the Word of God. We avoid the typical gimmicks and band-aid solutions by addressing real problems with biblical solutions so that Christian families can live together in Christ's love and joy.
- Reformed Theology - Commonly summarized by sola Scriptura, solus Christus, sola fide, sola gratia, soli Deo gloria. We worship the Triune God who is utterly sovereign, just, and gracious, and our theology must conform to His authoritative and infallible revelation of Himself through the Scriptures.
- Practical Christian Living - The latest "seven steps to an easy life" manuals really do not create much lasting good. We are far more interested in applying the wisdom of Scripture and enjoying the Christian life than reading about the flimsy secrets of successful CEOs or the special diet of Methuselah.
- Calling All to Repentance and Faith - There is no "Christ-free" zone in life. Everything must be subordinated to Him, and so we call all men to repentance and faith. This means everyone from scientists to politicians, from businessmen to janitors are called to believe in Jesus Christ and obey the Word of God in every thing they do.
Our Doctrinal Standards
and Constitution
We humbly stand in the line of Protestant churches that have used the Three Forms of Unity and Westminster Standards. In addition to these grand statements of the Faith, we also hold to other biblically consistent Confessions and Creeds.
